The big hangover

After the coronation day a lot of things had to be fixed. A few of the Amberites stayed in Amber to take care of things, other left for various places. Below are the juiciest quotes.

Folly, regarding her mother
I mean, for all that she's... had everybody, she doesn't really have anybody, y'know?"

Robin really likes the city
"This place just wears me down, mon frere. 'Come to magnificent Castle Amber. Wonder at the incredible cacophony. Thrill to odors you never knew existed. Bask in the delicious bug-in-a-bell-jar ambiance.'" Robin wrinkles her nose and sticks out her tongue.

So now we know Fiona's morning temper is bad
Bleys opens his eyes and looks at Conner. "I have two unpalatable choices, Conner. Waking your mother to tell her that Mother has Brita or failing to wake your mother to tell her that Mother has Brita."

Don't ever let Bleys run breeding experiments
"Grandmother seems a rare person." Conner comments. "I haven't even met her and I dislike her immensely. That takes talent."

Bleys:"Oh, she's not so bad, just opinionated. Imagine a cross between Brita and Lucas."

Vere, the family therapist of Amber?
James: Vere and Paige do seem to have a *slightly* different approach to handling relationships...

Paige, hands on hips: Care to elaborate on your views there, buster?

Vere: Oh, nothing, nothing. It's just that *some* people actually *listen* to their lovers before starting a fight with them....
[Puts hands in pockets and whistles innocently]

Martin (Ginger): Lalalalalalalalala I'm on a beach with my girlfriend and can't hear any of this lalalalalalalalala

I simply liked this thing Vere said
Vere nods. "I have heard a theory," he says, "That the Pattern makes us more what we already are, that it makes the core truth of our being more accessible, more *real*." He smiles. "Before I came to Amber, freedom was what I wanted. Freedom from the marriage my mother would eventually decide was politically advantageous, freedom from the expectations I believed my parents had for me, freedom from the limitations that my homeland placed upon what I could be. Now, as I face the prospect of gaining the power to give me that freedom, I find that those obligations have all been replaced by equally binding ones that *I* have chosen." He pauses and considers for a few moments before continuing, "And I find that I have no regrets. Strange, is it not?"

It's out...Corwin, on Dworkin
"Apparently he was Dad's father."

Lucas knows his place in the world...
Lucas(GM): his ear cut off: Lucas lies back again, frowning a little. "One presumes that one's mutilation, shocking though it is, was not the only objective of these barbarians."

...and also what is important.
Lucas (now Mel): "If it pleases you, you may rescind the cigars and substitute a suitably coloured energy drink for the brandy. Only I shall insist upon a decanter and a balloon glass. One has appearances to maintain, after all."

A microphone, a mixer and a bandstation makes no Heaven
Folly, to Soren: "What, you don't think you're going to a recording studio when you die?"

Not a bad power, that
Karen: I'm beginning to suspect "Always Gets The Comfy Chair" is Jerod's zero-point power.

Total protonic reversal coming?
Clarissa: Her attention turns to Ambrose. "I thought we'd agreed that you wouldn't Part the Veil so often anymore, my boy. Your dear father told me that it was bad for the fabric of the universe, remember?"

That's probably true for more than her name
Michael: Clarissa is like Cher or Sauron. Only lesser people need more than one name.

When Lilly is kissed by Paige, she...eh...very well
Closing her yes for a moment she takes a deep breath.

I am sure Lucas would be amused
Arref: the Celina diaries: entry 1.203.17 file Lucas under 'L' for locks Large Lucas-proof Locks

Conner on communication problems
"I would introduce Thalia of Gateway but as you can see she's unconscious right now."

Now Celina knows her family consists of nutcases
GM, Michael: Merlin has had a ghostly chat with thin air.

"Welcome to the Family, Kid," says Brennan. "Ghostly chats with thin air will be commonplace before we're done with you."

Not much to go on
Lilly: She was basing her trust solely on the fact Paige trusted him. Paige the redhead. No one trusted the redheads.

Is dressing in black silly?
Celina on Merlin, Corwin and Jerod: "It just struck me that you are all related. It's charming in a..." --silly mannish way.-- "...way I hope will become familiar to me."

Even in Texorami kids grow up
Folly: "What is WITH you people?!" she exclaims. "I turn my back for TWO SECONDS, and you all turn into GROWN-UPS!"

Bad Karma, Jerod...
Ginger:It occurs to me that I'm really looking forward to seeing Jerod loose in a combat.

Dear Grandma!
Brennan hugs Clarissa: To Reid and Paige, Brennan looks a bit like a four-year-old tolerating the ancient relative who smells of baby powder and perfume long since gone to alcohol covering the smell of false teeth.

In his dreams Lucas is even more witty
Lucas: "It was indeed a masterful epithet, containing a sublime admixture of bile, wit and pungency in two crystal clear and well-honed sentences. But, alas! How often are we going to find Amber over-run by incontinent camels in a winter blizzard that produces blue snow? For those were the circumstances of my dream, and without that context, all my words would be wasted."

Some ladies might not agree
Lady Vesper: "There is concern about Royal favoritism, but most people are quiet, because they think we shall be going back to war."

"Oh," says Lucas, "who with? Revenge for the attack on the Masquerade, do you suppose? The War of Lucas's Ear has a ring to it, but only in the way that over-filled cash registers ring at sale time. Disproportionate for the effort involved by all parties."

New book: The physics of House of Cards
Brennan, to Vialle: Brennan nods compliance.

John:You know why this works?
Because Brennan's head is so empty, it RATTLES when he nods.
That's why.

No one else could get away with nodding to the blind queen.

In Asgard we play music the hard way
Reid gives a "I'm giving it my best but really haven't been able to make heads-nor-tales of it" shrug... one that she might recognize from some of his early teaching experiences.

Monica:[yeah, the ones when Brita just wasn't getting how to play Bethoven's 5th on the lute]

The universal solution
Brennan: "You can offer to kill Daeon, too, to prevent Artemis *or* Calliste from rising ascendant!"

For the briefest of moments this struck Lilly as a not-so-bad idea

Not likely
Brennan: "Lucas? Are you trying to be... helpful?"

But isn't that what you always been longing for
John: ...it's probably a really good thing that Brennan doesn't know anything about the Jovian-Flora thread....!

Mel: You think =Brennan= would have problems with it? Wait till you hear =Lucas= on the subject of having to call Jovian 'Dad'.

His greatest fear
Steve: I'm going to love it when Jovian gets his 'no bonking' lecture.

Leslie: Duuuuddde! It's not 'no bonking' -- it's no *breeding!* Very important difference.

And honestly, telling Jovian not to bonk is like telling him not to breathe.

It is confirmed once more
Lady Vesper: "Sir Jovian, if I recall. He may well be the best dancer in Amber, Lucas. He certainly will never lack partners."

"I am sure of it," says Lucas with perfect sinceriity. "What woman would want to refuse a man famed for possessing such a large dragon?"

Not in the same league
John/Brennan: Aw, crap.

Blake/Jerod: Hey, that's my line...:)

Brennan: Your previously unknown sister is beloved by almost all, and wouldn't threaten a graham cracker if she were dying of hunger and drowning in milk.

My previously unknown brother helps kidnap Brita and drags me along to meet my previously unknown sister, who is a raging, hissing, probably acid spitting demon goddess.

I think I'm entitled....

Now that is a scary prospect
John: If Daeon falls afoul of Clarissa, the vaunted fertility god may find *himself* pregnant.

Not impossible
Garrett, to Lilly: "And you can keep all that information in your head? That's amazing, ma'am. Is it just name, rank and job description or do you know everyone's deep, dark secrets as well?"
